A 19-year-old man was taken into custody in Albemarle County following a pursuit and crash in the area of Seminole Trail on Sunday night.

Asiyus S. Langhorn, of Dillwyn, was taken into custody and is being held at the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail without bond.

According to the Albemarle County Police Department, an officer attempted to stop Langhorn for failing to maintain the lane of travel near Airport Acres at 11:22 p.m.

When the officer approached the vehicle, a firearm and extended magazine were observed in the passenger seat.

The driver fled the traffic stop, initiating a vehicle pursuit northbound on Seminole Trail. During the pursuit, officers observed the driver discard the firearm from the passenger-side window.

Once the vehicle entered the area of Briarwood Drive, the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed.

As a result of this incident, ACPD charged Langhorn with:

  • Felony eluding (§46.2-817)
  • Reckless handling of a firearm (§18.2-56.1(a))
  • Underage driving under the influence (§18.2-266.1)
  • Reckless driving (§46.2-862)
  • Failure to maintain lane of travel (§46.2-804)

The firearm discarded from the vehicle was also later recovered by officers.
