Albemarle County: U.S. 250 improvements in Pantops area focus of VDOT public hearing

Rebecca Barnabi

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will hold a design public hearing to share plans for improvements along U.S. 250 (Richmond Road) in the Pantops area of Albemarle County.

The hearing will be held Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at the Hilton Garden Inn at 1793 Richmond Road in Albemarle County from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

VDOT plans to reduce congestion and increase safety by reconstructing the intersection of U.S. 250 and Route 20/Riverbend Drive. In the new configuration, the Route 20 and Riverbend Drive approaches will have dedicated lanes for both through and right-turning traffic, as well as dedicated dual left-turn lanes. Construction includes an additional right-turn lane onto Route 20 for westbound U.S. 250 traffic.

The work includes a raised median with strategic openings along U.S. 250 between Route 20 and Hansen Road to maintain free-flowing traffic on U.S. 250, and 300 feet of new sidewalk will be installed along the west side of Stony Point Road between U.S. 250 and the entrance to the McDonald’s restaurant to link existing sidewalks.

The community is invited to stop in and view project options, ask questions and leave comments. They may also submit comments to John Rose, Project Manager, 1601 Orange Road, Culpeper, VA 22701, or e-mail to [email protected]. Reference “Pantops Corridor Improvements Comment” in the subject line.
