The director of elections in Albemarle County, Lauren Eddy, has resigned from her job, effective Tuesday, per a release from county government on Thursday.

No reason was given for the move.

The press release included a line about how the Albemarle County Electoral Board “is committed to ensuring that all elections within Albemarle County remain free, fair, safe and legal,” which rings an odd tone.

Suspicious, I checked her name on the Virginia Online Case Information System, and all I saw were two items for driving with an expired registration, from 2024 and 2025.

The press release tells us that the Electoral Board is now actively recruiting for two positions: an Acting General Registrar and a General Registrar to fill Eddy’s unexpired term.
