AFP

albemarleAlbemarle County has named David Hannah as its new Natural Resources Manager, effective December 1.

In this newly created position, David will develop, coordinate, and administer natural resource protection, conservation, and monitoring programs. David brings a strong technical background to this position along with established relationships with many of the County’s partner organizations and state agencies. That background, combined with his understanding of Albemarle County’s natural resource objectives, makes David uniquely qualified to oversee the protection and preservation of the County’s natural resources.

“David’s wealth of experience and industry knowledge has already made him a key addition to the County,” said Director of Community Development, Mark Graham in announcing the selection, “We view his appointment as a continuing sign of our commitment to being stewards of the environment as well as our strong focus on maintaining the rural character of the county.”

David’s most recent role, before joining the County of Albemarle, was as the Executive Director of StreamWatch. Prior to joining StreamWatch, he served for six years as the Conservation Director of Wild Virginia, where he focused on national forest issues. David received his M.S. degree in Wildlife Ecology from the University of Florida and has worked as a professional in the conservation and natural resource field since 1993. His conservation career has found him working as a General Biologist with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in Delaware, a Natural Resource Manager for the North Carolina state park system, a Land Protection Specialist for The Nature Conservancy of Virginia, and a Conservation Officer for the Piedmont Environmental Council in Albemarle County, Virginia. David formerly served on the Board of Directors for the Virginia Society of Ornithology. He has also worked as a teacher, computer programmer, and in real estate and construction. Since 1998, David has lived in Charlottesville with his wife, Laurie.
