The Albemarle County Board of Supervisors have appointed an interim county attorney to follow in the footsteps of Steven Rosenberg.

Andy Herrick will officially assume the position on Sept. 1. The decision was made at the board meeting on Aug. 7.

“We are pleased to appoint Andy Herrick as our interim county attorney,” said Board of Supervisors Chair Jim Andrews. “Mr. Herrick brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record through his years of dedicated service to Albemarle County. We are confident in his ability to take on this leadership role with continued integrity and excellence.”

As interim county attorney, Herrick will be responsible for providing legal counsel to the Board of Supervisors, representing the county in legal matters and overseeing the operations of the county attorney’s office.

Herrick has nearly 30 years of experience, including 25 years in public service within local government. He currently serves as the deputy county attorney for Albemarle County, where he has primarily worked with the community development, finance and social services departments.

Herrick previously served as the assistant county attorney for James City County and worked in private practice with the Williamsburg city attorney. He earned his undergraduate degree, law degree and Master of Business Administration from the College of William & Mary.

“I’d like to thank the Board of Supervisors for this opportunity,” said Herrick. “I am humbled, honored and excited to serve the board and the county in this new role.”

Rosenberg’s retirement is effective Sept. 1. Rosenberg has worked for Albemarle County for two years and spent 27 years in the public sector.
