The ACLU of Virginia issueda statement with regard to the execution of Alfredo Prieto on Thursday night.
“It is saddening that the Commonwealth of Virginia continues to exercise the death penalty, and further shameful that it would kill a person who may have had an intellectual disability even as the U.S. Supreme Court has said such an action would be unconstitutional. There is no excuse for such barbarism in a civilized society,” ACLU of Virginia Executive Director Claire Guthrie Gastañaga said.
