UVa. football recruiting coordinator and cornerbacks coach Chip West has been named Scout.com’s Recruiter of the Year for the Atlantic Coast Conference following Wednesday’s National Signing Day.

uva-logo-new2West was the lead recruiter for five-star defensive tackle Andrew Brown (Chesapeake) and five-star cornerback Quin Blanding (Virginia Beach), just two of the Cavaliers top recruits for the Class of 2014. Brown and Blanding both were also tabbed as the top player at their respective positions. Both were Parade All-Americans, and Brown was the Gatorade National Player of the Year. The duo also shared Tom Lemming’s Defensive Player of the Year honor.

The UVa. class was ranked 40th nationally and seventh in the ACC overall by Rivals.com.

“I’m proud and pleased for Chip,” said Virginia coach Mike London. “Chip is a hard worker on the recruiting trail and he is a big believer in building genuine relationships. In the particular recruitment of Andrew and Quin, Chip is from that area, has deep ties to the community and has recruited there about 15 years. That really paid off. Chip does things the right way and has done a great job of attracting the types of student-athletes we want to have represent our program at Virginia.”

West’s recruiting area is the Tidewater region of Virginia and five of UVa’s 17 signees came from that area. Also from West’s region was four-star quarterback Corwin Cutler (Virginia Beach), four-star wide receiver Jamil Kamara (Virginia Beach) and three-star linebacker Chris Peace (Newport News).

The year, UVa also signed recruits from California, Florida, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Washington, D.C., and West Virginia.
