The road to the ACC Championship Game got a little bumpy for #4 Miami, which trailed most of the day on the way to a 28-23 loss at Georgia Tech on Saturday.

Georgia Tech (6-4, 4-3 ACC) ran for 271 yards, and the Yellow Jackets D came up with a turnover on downs on the edge of the red zone in the fourth quarter, and forced a Cam Ward fumble in the final two minutes.

The loss drops Miami (9-1, 5-1 ACC) into third in the conference standings, behind #13 SMU (8-1, 5-0 ACC), which was idle this weekend, and #23 Clemson (7-2, 6-1 ACC), which rallied from a 7-0 halftime deficit at Virginia Tech to post a 24-14 win.

The Clemson D held the Hokies to 228 total yards, and Cade Klubnik had three passing TDs.

The Hokies (5-5, 3-3 ACC) have lost two straight, and have two chances to get to a sixth win and bowl eligibility – at Duke on Nov. 23, and then at home against Virginia on Nov. 30.

In other ACC action

  • Duke (7-3, 3-3 ACC) won on the road at NC State (5-5, 2-4 ACC), 29-19. Maalik Murphy passed for 245 yards and two TDs for the Blue Devils in the win.
  • Boston College (5-4, 2-3 ACC) put up 313 yards on the ground in a 37-31 win at Syracuse (6-3, 3-3 ACC). BC had two rushers go 100-plus on the ground – Kye Robichaux (198 yards, two TDs) and Jordan McDonald (133 yards, one TD). Kyle McCord passed for 392 yards and two TDs for Syracuse.
