Staunton’s Joanne Bolton will be honored with a sweeping retrospective exhibit, “A Life in Color: 65 Years of Art by Joanne Bolton,” opening Friday, July 11, at Art Hive.

The special show celebrates more than six decades of creative work from an artist whose talent has earned national recognition.

“Joanne has always been quietly extraordinary. She’s a beloved local, but her story— and her talent — reach far beyond Staunton. This show is both a celebration and a chance to really see the depth of her journey,” Art Hive owner and show curator Kirsten Schneider said.

Bolton’s artwork has not only won awards but also led her into fascinating professional experiences, including working on projects with Hollywood stars. Her career has spanned gallery exhibitions, illustration and professional commissions, all while maintaining a deep connection to nature.

The retrospective will feature a wide range of her visual art, from early pencil studies to richly developed contemporary paintings. The exhibit will also showcase a selection of her original poetry inspired by the same subjects and moments that appear in her artwork. Together, the paintings and poems offer an intimate, multi-dimensional portrait of a lifetime devoted to creative expression.

The exhibition is free and open to the public, with an opening reception on Friday, July 11th from 5 to 7 p.m. All are welcome to attend and help honor one of Staunton’s most enduring creative voices.

Art Hive is at 835 Spring Hill Rd., Staunton.
