darkness2The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention will hold its second walk in Staunton on Saturday, October 8.

AFSP has expanded the walk area to the Greater Augusta Out of the Darkness Walk, and invites the community to participate again.

A kickoff event to begin planning for the 2016 walk is scheduled for Thursday, May 26, 6-8 p.m., at Panera Bread, 1101 Red Top Orchard Road, Waynesboro.

Register as a team or individual online now.

Walk Chair Kim Sours will have packets and fund-raising ideas for you. The planning group will also have ideas to help you build your team.

AFSP Regional Director Ryan Newcomb will deliver “Talk Saves Lives” – a half-hour presentation to learn the risk and warning sides of suicide, and how together, we can help prevent it.

Background: 2015 Out of the Darkness Walk

The 2015 event had 578 registered walkers and raised $39,035.58.

This year’s goal for the walk is $50,000! The mission: save lives and bring hope to those affected by suicide.

AFSP has set a bold goal to reduce the annual suicide rate in the U.S. 20 percent by 2025.
