Late homer lifts Woodstock over Waynesboro, 11-10

A walkoff homer by Mike Vinson was the difference for Woodstock in an 11-10 victory over Waynesboro Tuesday night.

Vinson led off the bottom of the ninth with the blast, his third of the season, off Generals reliever Kyle Allen (1-2).

Waynesboro starter Devin Smith had his first rough outing of the season, giving up eight runs, seven earned, in four innings of work.

The Waynesboro offense was hitting on all cylinders. Brandon Murray hit his eighth home run of the year and drove in four runs, JoJo Woods hit his first homer of the year from the leadoff spot, and Bradley Noland had four hits.

Even with the rough outing for Smith, who had come into the game with a 4-0 record in four starts, the Generals had a 10-8 lead into the sixth when the River Bandits scored an unearned run off Garrett Baugh, making his first appearance of the season for Waynesboro. Tanner Cimo tied the game at 10 with a seventh-inning RBI single off John Sabelle.

Stephen Green (1-1) picked up the win in relief for Woodstock.

The Generals maintain a one-game lead in the South Division.

Their next game is at home on Thursday night against Haymarket. The first pitch at Mathers Park at Kate Collins Field is at 7 p.m.
