James Madison University invites all members of the local community to join the university in celebrating the official grand opening ceremonies of JMU’s brand new softball and baseball complex, Veterans Memorial Park, this Saturday, April 10. The day will also feature the unveiling of a new name for the field at the baseball stadium.

The daylong celebration will begin with gates opening at 11 a.m. for JMU softball’s noon doubleheader against Colonial Athletic Association rival Hofstra. The day will conclude with JMU baseball hosting in-state rival William and Mary in a key conference matchup at 6:30 p.m. In between the games from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., there will be additional festivities to celebrate the new facilities.

Both games will feature special pregame ceremonies to officially usher in the new facilities for both programs. Each celebration will feature key JMU representatives and noteworthy alumni with ribbon-cutting activities and ceremonial first pitches. The baseball pregame events will be highlighted by the unveiling of a new name for the field and recognition of the key contributors involved.

A JMU FanZone will be available in between games including autograph sessions with both the baseball and softball teams. There will also be face painting and inflatable games for kids, a live radio remote courtesy of Q101, and specials at the concession stand, including free ice cream sandwiches and popcorn as well as $1 hot dogs. JMU students can also receive a free t-shirt if they are among the first 100 fans through the gate at both the softball and baseball contests.

In addition to parking available next to the stadiums, JMU will operate a continuous shuttle throughout the day from the R11 lot on Grace Street to Veterans Memorial Park. Additional game information for both series will be available later in the week as previews are posted for both sports.

Tickets for games at Veterans Memorial Park are available at the gate on the day of games or in advance via JMUSports.com or by calling 540.568.DUKE (3853).
