Class teaches rules of hardwood

I write about and regularly play basketball, but I still let myself get caught up.
Basketball can do that to you. You want to yell at the TV, assume the refs are in somebody’s back pocket.
Or for me, you almost get a technical foul expressing your, ahem, displeasure with a no-call where you thought you got hacked shooting a three.
Anyway.

Stephen Gibson wants to help us all through our issues. Gibson is leading a two-night class at Blue Ridge Community College called Basketball: Rules and Case Plays.

“Have you been yelling and mad, verbally upset and wondering why the officials are so bad – which you will find out they aren’t after taking this class? If so, this class will work well for you as it takes the typical fan with basic rules knowledge and moves them to a higher level,” Giibson said.

The class is for all age groups and interest levels – from youth players and volunteer coaches to adults who follow the game religiously in the winter to those who might be thinking about trying to become a certified basketball official in the future.

The classes will be held in late September and early October.
