guanteGuante, a hip-hop artist and two-time National Poetry Slam champion, will present a program at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 31, in Cole Hall at Bridgewater College.

Guante strives to push boundaries in form and substance while deconstructing traditional ideas of masculinity, challenging dominant narratives on race and racism, or telling stories about different jobs he has held.

He has shared the stage with artists such as Talib Kweli, Saul Williams, Brother Ali, Dead Prez, Sage Francis and Andrea Gibson.

Guante has performed at the 2015 United Nations Barbershop Conference and the Department of Justice Conference on Gender Violence Prevention and Safe Schools Youth Summit, both in 2014.

The program is free and open to the public.

Bridgewater College is a private, four-year liberal arts college located in the Central Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. Founded in 1880, it was the state’s first private, coeducational college. Today, Bridgewater College is home to approximately 1,800 undergraduate students.
