Chris Graham

The Liz and Llyn Jazz Duo will be the studio musicians for the “River City Radio Hour” on May 15. Joining them will be musician Terry Short, and an expanded peek into the life and times of Olivia Rae Frock, the choir director at the All Saints Church of Propitious Believers.

The Liz and Lynn Jazz Duo is composed of Liz Barnes, pianist, and Llyn Walker, jazz vocalist. The Duo has been performing throughout Central Virginia. This is their first time as the featured musicians at the “Radio Hour.”

Terry Short, co-owner of Short & Sweet Bakery, will be performing some of his own music for the first time at the Radio Hour. Terry currently plays in the band The Turnpike Down, and co-leads the Praise Team at First Baptist Church in Waynesboro.

Bob Crawford, the creator of the Olivia Rae character, will unveil Olivia Rae and the Dogwoods of the Dominion at the May “Radio Hour.” The new episode brings Olivia Rae, her spinster sister Mildred, the handsome youth minister, Magnasin McBride and the aging leader of the flock, the Rev Rightfield Palmer, together for a exploration of “inspirational” experiences. Barbara Lawson will play Olivia with Marsha Howard as her sister Mildred. Jarod Kearney will join the cast as Magnasin.

The part of the Rev. Rightfield Palmer will be taken by the author. Bob Crawford is an active professional playwright, director and actor. For over twenty years, he wrote and performed in the Murder Mystery Weekends at Pennsylvania’s Allenberry Playhouse as well as writing a dozen Allenberry Christmas shows. Others of his plays have had professional staging at the Open Stage of Harrisburg, Mount Gretna Summer Theatre, and Lincoln Center in New York City.

Marsha Howard will take another turn with her latest set of jokes. The Lady of Laughter has become local favorite. In addition to her Radio Hour appearances, Howard has been featured at the Festival of Trees and other local venues.

The merchants of the month are Heather and Terry Short, owners of the newest business in Downtown Waynesboro, Short & Sweet Bakery.

The May 15 performances will take place at the Blue Ridge Christian Fellowship at 329 W. Main St. in Downtown Waynesboro. The Radio Hour is presented at 6:30 pm and 8 pm. Admission is pay what you will.

“The River City Radio Hour” is a production of the Waynesboro Cultural Commission, Waynesboro Downtown Development, Inc. and The Wayne Theatre Alliance with special support from the Virginia Commission for the Arts.
