Left-hander Donte Lindsay (Bethune-Cookman) delivered five shout-out innings in his first starting assignment and his Harrisonburg teammates provided enough offense in support as the Turks defeated visiting Strasburg, 3-1, Friday night at Veterans Memorial Park.
Harrisonburg upped its record to 22-8 and opened a three-game lead over Staunton, a 4-1 loser Friday to Front Royal, in the South. Strasburg slipped to 15-12 and fell a half game behind first-place Front Royal (16-12) in the North.
Lindsay, who recently joined the Turks, allowed only three hits, walked one, hit another and fanned two to raise he record to 2-0. Patrick Wiseman (Georgia Tech) fanned three and gave up one hit in two innings before Tyler Brown (Wingate) came on to earn his fourth save, despite yielding a run on four hits over the final two frames.
Five Turks contributed a pair of hits each to a 12-hit attack. Catcher Erik Garcia (Missouri Baptist) and shortstop Tripp Shelton (UNC Greensboro) each went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
The Express got six of their eight hits from the top three batters in the order with two each coming from center fielder Donovan May (Villanova), Bradley Dixon (College of Charleston) and third baseman Drew Johnson (Cedarville).
