Best of Virginia Living highlights Waynesboro business, events

best of va living2The results from Virginia Living readers are in, and Waynesboro is ready to celebrate the region’s award-winning attractions, food, events, medical care, and recreational outlets. Bragging rights have been secured for the best place to catch a movie – Zeus Digital Theaters – and the top fishing spot in the Shenandoah Valley: the South River, where largemouth and catfish, rainbow and brown trout, among other river treasure, can be found. The City also boasts the top dermatology practice and landscaping company in the Valley.

Each year, Virginia Living magazine polls readers to ask where to find the state’s cream of the crop … and the response was overwhelming. In 2015, more than 40,000 ballots were cast, and in total, over 1400 businesses in 95 locations were recognized. Waynesboro residents are quite familiar with these area standouts, and the voters agreed.

And the award winners in the Shenandoah Valley region are:

Best Movie Theater – Zeus Digital Theaters
Zeus was built with high standards in mind: each of the eight screens feature stadium seating with high-backed leather chairs for patrons to enjoy new releases in both standard and 3D. With a full arcade and costume-themed contests for special events, Zeus really knows how to add pizazz to a night at the movies.

Best Place to Fish – South River
The South River is regularly stocked with trophy-sized trout, and as one of only two urban fisheries in the state, its proximity to downtown guarantees an afternoon of fun. Along the new Greenway Trail, anglers have over two miles of easy access to waters benefitting from extensive restorations. With the annual VA Fly Fishing and Wine Festival held on its banks every April, the beauty and success of this fishery as a destination for fly fishing, kayaking, and everything in between is readily apparent.

Best Dermatology Practice – Blue Ridge Dermatology
Blue Ridge Dermatology cares for our largest organ: skin. In business more than 40 years now, they currently have seven doctors on staff with a range of specialties and experience to cover every patient, including a pediatric specialist.

Best Landscaping Company – Waynesboro Landscape and Garden Center
Founded in 1946, Waynesboro Landscape and Garden Center has been a family business since the beginning. They provide top-quality landscaping service to both the residential and commercial customer, and the garden center has everything needed to begin this lifelong hobby. They also host classes to help their customers better their homes and the community as a whole.

In addition to those who took home the gold, Waynesboro had several second and third place finishes, including the Virginia Fall Foliage Festival (Best Art Event), Sweet Frog (Best Frozen Yogurt Shop), Best Sports Bar (Buffalo Wild Wings), Best Air Charter Service (Eagle’s Nest Airport), Best Independent School (Fishburne Military School) and Best Outdoor Outfitter (Rockfish Gap Outfitters).

“These awards reinforce our cachet as a tourist destination. Where else can you fly fish downtown, walk a block for an amazing farm-to-table meal and immerse yourself in history all in the span of an afternoon?” said Jenny Carter with the Waynesboro Tourism Department,

“All of these businesses and attractions lay the foundation for our visitor’s experiences. We are fortunate to have such great diversity, and we celebrate the winners. Congratulations on your success; well done.”
