nathan kirbyUVA All-America lefty Nathan Kirby was taken by the Milwaukee Brewers with the 40th pick in the 2015 MLB Draft Monday night.

Kirby had been projected as a potential Top 10 draft pick before the season, but his stock slipped after he went down with a strained lat in an April 17 start against Miami.

The junior has yet to return to action for the Cavs, though coach Brian O’Connor said over the weekend that he expects Kirby to be available for relief duty in the College World Series when Virginia squares off with Arkansas on Saturday.

Kirby has a 5-2 record in 2015 in 10 starts with a 2.28 ERA in 59.1 innings of work, with 75 strikeouts, 30 walks and a .233 opponent batting average.

In three seasons at UVA, Kirby is 18-6 in 52 appearances, 30 of them starts, with a 2.76 ERA in 205.1 innings, with 224 strikeouts, 76 walks and a .218 opponent batting average.
