Chris Davis hit two homers, inclyding a tie-breaking blast to right in the bottom of the eighth, and Zach Britton survived a shaky ninth to preserve a 5-4 Baltimore win over Houston on Wednesday at Camden Yards.
Davis hit a two-run homer in the fourth to ignite a four-run Orioles fourth, Steve Pearce also hit a solo shot in the fourth off Houston starter Collin McHugh, who went six innings on the day, giving up four runs on nine hits, with five strikeouts and no walks in a no-decision.
The Astros rallied to tie the game at 4-4 in the seventh on a three-run homer by Evan Gattis off O’s starter Ubaldo Jimenez, who also got a no-decision, going seven innings, giving up four runs on 10 hits, striking out five and walking one.
Davis homered in the eighth on the first pitch from lefty reliever Tony Sipp (2-2).
Brad Brach (3-0) vultured the win in relief for Baltimore, throwing a scoreless eighth in advance of the Davis home run.
Britton gave up a two-out double to Jose Altuve before retiring Preston Tucker on a fly ball to the warning track in left to record his 12th save.
The win brings Baltimore (21-23) to within two and a half games of the first-place New York Yankees in the bunched-up American League East, where everyone is within four games of first.
