ODU football agrees to home-and-home series with Wake Forest

odu logoOld Dominion University Athletic Director Dr. Wood Selig announced that the Monarchs have agreed to a two-year home and home agreement with Wake Forest for the 2020 and 2021 seasons.

ODU will host Wake Forest in Norfolk on Sept. 19, 2020 and play the Demon Deacons in Winston-Salem on Sept. 11, 2021.

“This is another exciting match-up that we are looking forward to vs. the ACC. Wake Forest is improving under first year Head Coach Dave Clawson. I have known Dave since his days at Villanova and followed his head coaching career at Fordham, Richmond and Bowling Green,” ODU Head Coach Bobby Wilder said. “He has consistently built winning programs and I have no doubt in my mind they will be a winning program when we play them in 2020 and 2021. We will continue to build a strong non-conference schedule that our players and 12th Monarchs will be excited about.”

Wake Forest will be the third ACC opponent to play in Norfolk, as NC State will visit Old Dominion in 2015 and Virginia Tech will visit to ODU in 2018. It is also the second multi-game series with an ACC opponent, as the Monarchs traveled to Raleigh to meet the Wolfpack this season.

“We are very excited to work with a quality ACC institution to construct a mutually beneficial home and home football series,” Selig said.  “I am confident this announcement will be well received by our fans and represents the third ACC opponent we have been able to attract for a home and home series further illustrating our ability to attract quality non-conference opponents to our campus.”

Wake Forest is coached by Dave Clawson, who is in his first season with the Demon Deacons.  Wake Forest has been to four bowl games in the last seven years, including the 2007 orange bowl after winning the ACC Championship.
