shenandoah u logoShenandoah University Head Baseball Coach Kevin Anderson announced Tuesday that assistant baseball coach David Jenkins ’07 has resigned.

Jenkins, who played four years for Anderson as an undergrad after playing for the Hornets skipper when Anderson was the head baseball and football coach at Warren County (Virginia) High School, is leaving his alma mater to become the head baseball coach at Sewanee (University of the South).

In six years as one of Anderson’s assistants, Jenkins has been a part of a staff that has seen SU post a 204-63 overall record (.764), make five NCAA Tournament apparances and two trips to the National Championships in Appleton, Wisconsin.

Shenandoah also won one USA South Conference regular season championship, one USA South Tournament championship and has played in its league tournament championship contest in five of his six seasons on staff.

“I want to congratulate ‘Jenks’ for being named as the head baseball coach at Sewanee,” Anderson said. “He has matured into an excellent baseball coach and I know he is going to do a great job with that program.

“He was great for us and this is the next step in his career.”

As a player at SU, Jenkins was a four-year starter for the Hornets and earned All-USA South honors three times in his career. He finished his career as the all-time leader in games played and games started and is still No. 3 on the all-time games started list.

“I want to thank everyone at Shenandoah, especially coach Anderson,” said Jenkins. “Coach A has done so much to prepare me to be a head coach and I will forever be thankful.

“I can’t wait to get started on this next step in my career.”
