State Police investigating fatal Nelson County crash

policecar3Virginia State Police Sr. Trooper J.D. Allen responded to a single-vehicle crash in Nelson County Aug. 5, 2014. The crash occurred at 10:36 p.m. on Route 6, less than a mile west of Route 151.

A 1994 Civic Honda was westbound on Route 6 when it ran off the right side of the road as it came through a curve. The car’s driver overcorrected, causing the car to skid off the left side of the highway, strike a fence and then a tree.

The Honda’s driver, Matthew S. Kennedy, 27, of Afton, Va., was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of serious injuries. He was not wearing a seat belt.

The front-seat passenger, Christopher G. Clark, 33, of Faber, Va., died at the scene. Clark was not wearing a seat belt.

Kennedy was arrested and charged with DUI.

The crash remains under investigation.
