Budget amendment tied to CCCA gains support in House

One part of Staunton State Del. Chris Saxman’s proposal to prevent the closure of the Commonwealth Center for Children and Adolescents is moving ahead gaining support in the Virginia General Assembly.

A budget amendment auithored by Saxman to delay the purchase of new school textbooks in the next fiscal year passed the House of Delegates a House of Delegates subcommittee on Wednesday. The $79 million savings achieved by the purchase delay would in part then be applied to the $6 million in funding for the Staunton-based CCCA that was cut from Gov. Tim Kaine’s budget for 2009-2010.

“This year, Virginia is facing many budget challenges, and it requires us all to work together to make tough decisions,” Saxman said. “I am very pleased that this proposal to help address our budget shortfall and provide the funding necessary to keep open the vital resource we have at CCCA is gaining broad, bipartisan support.”
