Virginia Quilt Museum appoints curator

Gloria Comstock-quilt museumThe Virginia Quilt Museum announces that Gloria Comstock has been appointed Curator/Registrar. As curator/registrar, Comstock is responsible for the care and record keeping of over 300 objects in the museum’s collection, which focuses on Virginia-made quilts.

Comstock holds degrees from the University of Maine, a Masters of Art from SUNY Binghamton, New York, and a MA in Textile History (with an emphasis in Quilt Studies) from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. After 35 years as a social worker in the public sector, she retired to Gainesville, Florida with husband Rick. In Florida Gloria worked as collections assistant with the Seminole Ethnographic Textile Collection at the Florida Museum of Natural History, Tallahassee.

An active quilt maker, former antique collector and dealer, Gloria and her husband have returned to Virginia and live in McGaheysville..

Dedicated to preserving, celebrating, and nurturing Virginia’s quilting heritage, the Virginia Quilt Museum, established in 1995, features a permanent collection of quilts, a Civil War Gallery, antique and toy sewing machines, and rotating exhibits from across the United States.  More information on Facebook, Twitter, and at www.vaquiltmuseum.org.
