At 4:55 am Wednesday (Oct. 30), Virginia State Police Trooper G.D. McCoy Jr. responded to a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 64 at the 89 mile marker in Augusta County. A tractor-trailer heading east on I-64 ran off the left side of the road and overturned in the median.

The tractor-trailer was hauling frozen chicken.

At 7:46 am Wednesday, Virginia State Police Trooper G.W. Clifton responded to a five-vehicle crash in the northbound lanes of Interstate 81 at the 222 mile marker in Augusta County.

A 2013 Ford Focus was coming from Interstate 64 west headed to Interstate 81 north when it encountered slowed traffic. The Focus was unable to stop in time and rear-ended the vehicle in front of it. That sparked a chain reaction crash that included two additional vehicles in the northbound lanes of I-81. Meanwhile, the Focus went to the left and collided with a northbound tractor-trailer.

The driver of the Focus, Ann D. Goeke, 18, of Crozet, Va., was transported to Augusta Health Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Goeke was charged with following too closely.

The driver of first vehicle the Focus struck was also transported to Augusta Health Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

All lanes re-opened by 8:55 am.
