Groh confirms staff shakeup

Chris Graham

It’s official – Al Groh is staying on at the helm of the UVa. football program, and his son Mike is among those being flung to the wolves as part of an internal housecleaning.

“There are no scapegoats here, the head coach is responsible for the team,” Groh said in a statement released by the University of Virginia athletics department Monday afternoon announcing the departures of Mike Groh, the offensive coordinator on his father’s staff the past three seasons, and defensive assistants Levern Belin and Steve Bernstein.

The school also announced today that Bob Pruett was being kicked upstairs from defensive coordinator to a new job with the title of assistant head coach/defense, that Bob Diaco will assume the duties of defensive coordinator and that Anthony Poindexter will move from running-backs coach to defensive-secondary coach.

“The change in systems will be made to utilize the player talent available to us from our current roster and incoming players, and the changes in the staff will be made to accommodate those schemes,” Groh said in the statement.

“We are excited about the options and opportunities open to our team and the positive energy they will generate,” Groh said.

Making the case for universal health care: The message is the message
