wlogo2Ben Boykin and Quinn Griffith each hit their first home runs of the season, and Kyle Allen put in four key innings in relief to propel the Waynesboro Generals to an 11-2 win over Harrisonburg in Game 1 of their Valley League first-round playoff series.

Allen (sophomore, Butler) gave up two runs on two hits in relief of starter David Spinosa (sophomore, Columbia), who had shut the Turks out through three innings.

The game was tied at 2-2 in the sixth when Corbin Lucas (sophomore, Shenandoah) singled with two outs to score Anthony Iacomini (junior, Cortland State) from third.

Waynesboro added to its lead in the seventh with a pair of runs aided by sloppy Harrisonburg defense. Catcher Taylor Nichols tried to throw behind JoJo Woods (junior, Central Florida) at second base, but the ball got away, and Woods came around to score when center fielder Thomas Spitz misplayed the errant throw.

Tyler Bocock (sophomore, Stetson) scored later in the inning on a passed ball to make it 5-2 Waynesboro.

Boykin (junior, College of Charleston) homered to lead off the eighth to make it 6-2 Waynesboro.

The Generals added five runs in the ninth, with the big blow being a two-run homer by Griffith (junior, Salisbury).

Latten Gailbraith (junior, Louisiana Tech) and Sean Bucholz (junior, Southern Miss) each put up scoreless innings of relief to close the game out.

Game 2 of the best-of-three series is set for Monday night at 7 p.m. at Linco Park at Kate Collins Field.
