Shenandoah National Park announces spring opening dates

ek Drive, redbuds (1)Facilities in Shenandoah National Park will begin opening this month and will continue to open through the spring.

Harry F. Byrd, Sr. and Dickey Ridge visitor centers will both open April 6. Check the park’s website for specific days of operation and for changes to this information before you visit.

Campgrounds will operate on the following schedule: Big Meadows Campground will open April 26; Lewis Mountain Campground will open May 3; Mathews Arm and Loft Mountain campgrounds will open May 24.

Elkwallow, Pinnacles, South River, and Dundo picnic grounds are currently open. The remaining picnic grounds will operate as follows:  Big Meadows Picnic Grounds will open April 26; Dickey Ridge and Lewis Mountain picnic grounds will open May 3.

Concessioner-operated restaurants, lodges, and associated facilities will operate as follows: Big Meadows Wayside will open March 22; Skyland Resort will open March 28; Lewis Mountain Cabins and Lewis Mountain Campstore will open April 5; Elkwallow Wayside will open April 19; Big Meadows Shower/Laundry and Loft Mountain Wayside will open April 26; Big Meadows Lodge will open May 15; Loft Mountain Campstore and Loft Mountain Showers and Laundry will open May 24.

Beginning this season, visitors may obtain vehicle fuel only at Big Meadows.
