Twenty days before the end of the 2026 election cycle, Tuesday, Nov. 3, early voting in Virginia is tracking well ahead – almost double – of what we saw in the 2022 midterms.

And where we’re seeing the most early-voting activity is where you’re going to want to see it: in districts in which Democrats are challenging MAGA Republican incumbents.

Per data from the Virginia Public Access Project, 568,450 early votes have been tallied statewide, up 84.9 percent from this point in the 2022 cycle – 307,415 early votes had been tallied 20 days ahead of the 2022 election.

Of note: our two local districts, the Fifth and the Sixth, are ranked second and third, respectively, in the total number of early votes cast.

Per VPAP, 68,504 early votes have been tallied in the Fifth District, where Democrat Tom Perriello is challenging incumbent MAGA Congressman John McGuire.

In the Sixth, 56,374 early votes have been tallied in the race in which Democrat Beth Macy is challenging incumbent MAGA Congressman Ben Cline.

Leading the way in early voting is the First District, which features another Democrat challenging a MAGA incumbent – Shannon Taylor, the Henrico County Commonwealth’s Attorney, is the Democratic nominee; Rob Wittman is the MAGA incumbent.

VPAP has 74,221 early votes talled in the First.

Next on the list of most early votes is another Democrat-challenging-a MAGA, in the Second, where Democrat Elaine Luria is facing off with MAGA incumbent Jen Kiggans.

VPAP has 54,204 early votes tallied in the Second District.

Two takeaways:

  • Credit to the campaigns of the Democratic challengers for GOTV.
  • Democratic voters in the red districts are obviously energized.

Need to keep this up through the end of early voting, and then obviously on Election Day, which usually trends Republican.
