Gas will run you, on average, $4.26 a gallon today, down from the recent high of $4.30 a gallon from this past Friday, but nonetheless still 17.2 cents per gallon higher than where we were a week ago, per data from GasBuddy.
The national average price of diesel has increased 31.6 cents compared to a week ago and stands at $6.18 per gallon, an all-time high.
Keep in mind: Donald Trump is promising that gas will be under $2 a gallon as soon as he wins his war with Iran, which he said will come after the midterms.
Two weeks to flatten the curve has turned into two months to win the war we’ve already won 48 times.
News on the gas price front over the weekend included a public push from Trump to Ukraine to get the Ukrainians to stop attacking Russian oil refineries, so that gas and diesel prices can get back in line.
You know, Trump could also pressure Russia to just leave Ukraine, ending the war there, but he won’t do that – because if he does that, the Russian oil oligarchs won’t get what they paid for when they bankrolled Don Jr.’s wedding from a few months back.
The Ukrainians, by the way, aren’t listening – they bombed another Russian oil refinery this morning.
“Diesel prices could climb even faster in the wake of the new refinery attacks,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy.
That’s on top of the “friction between the U.S. and Iran, new hostilities in the Red Sea, and the shutdown of Saudi Arabia’s East-West pipeline, all combining to jolt prices sharply higher,” per De Haan.
“While most of the country transitions to cheaper winter-blend gasoline this week, the scale of ongoing geopolitical escalations makes meaningful price relief unlikely in the near term. Motorists should brace for continued volatility ahead,” De Haan said.
“Continued volatility,” translated: higher prices.
