Charlottesville Police are telling us they have images of a suspect in an early-morning shooting on the Downtown Mall, but all they’re willing to share is a description of the guy, who was wearing a black hoodie with white writing on the front, light blue jeans, and white sneakers.
If you happen to know anybody who wears black hoodies with white writing on the front, light blue jeans and white sneakers – raising my hand here, because I’ve been known to wear black hoodies, light blue jeans and white sneakers – get in touch with the Charlottesville PD.
Officers were dispatched to the East Main Street-3rd Street SE area at 1:53 a.m., per a release from the police department, to respond to a report of a large disorder involving approximately 10 people.
At 1:58 a.m., officers received additional calls reporting shots fired in the area.
The investigation reviewed multiple angles of surveillance video from the Downtown Mall, and footage shows a suspect moving in and out of camera view during the disorder. At one point, the suspect is seen displaying a firearm before concealing it. The suspect is then seen walking backward westbound on the Mall, pointing a firearm eastbound, and firing shots near CVS before turning and running south toward Water Street.
The suspect, as noted, is described, in the release, as wearing a black hoodie with white writing on the front, light blue jeans, and white sneakers.
Crime scene investigators recovered seven 9mm cartridge casings from the scene. Some property damage to a nearby business occurred as a result of the shooting.
