How dumb college football polls are, really anytime, but particularly after one game: Virginia, which beat the hide off NC State, an ACC contender, is ranked, in the coaches’ poll, below Michigan, which actually lost at home to Western Michigan, though for now, it’s in the books as a win.
The ‘Hoos are at #25 in both the coaches’ and writers’ polls.
The coaches’ poll has UVA tied for 25th with Florida, which was impressive (/s) in a 66-21 win over Florida Atlantic.
Michigan, which we will soon be told lost to Western Michigan, 12-7, is 24th, per the coaches.
The MAC has filed a formal request to the powers-that-be to get what is now officially a 13-12 Michigan win in that one overturned.
I would expect the folks there to go to court if necessary, and if that happens, we all know how the courts are doing with these kinds of things these days.
You just have to file with the right judge.
Louisville is at the #24 spot in the writers’ poll; they’re the only team with a loss in their opener ranked in either poll.
The top-ranked team from the ACC is Miami, which is #7 in both polls – a spot ahead of LSU, which is a couple of days away from being kicked out of the SEC.
What happens to the rest of LSU’s schedule once that happens?
Maybe Lane Kiffin can get some games with the CFL before they close down for the winter.
SMU, which won last night’s no-frills game at money-challenged Florida State, is #17 in both polls.
