A fight in an Augusta County parking lot escalated this afternoon, and there were reports that a person had been shot.
The initial report, however, turned out to be false, according to a release from the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office. Responding deputies determined that while a firearm was produced, the victim “had not been struck by gunfire.”
The fight between two males began at approximately 1:31 p.m. in the parking lot of the Orchard Hill Shopping Center in Staunton, the location of the Food Lion.
The male suspect left the scene prior to the arrival of law enforcement.
The incident is under investigation. There is an active police presence in the area as deputies work to identify and locate the suspect and determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
