The nine health insurance companies that plan to participate in the Virginia individual market in 2027 have requested rate increases that range from 3.9 percent to 22.7 percent, with an average monthly increase at 16.7 percent.

In Virginia’s small group market, insurers are requesting to increase rates an average of 11.7 percent for 2027, based on rising costs of care.

Thanks, MAGA.

Per a release from the State Corporation Commission, insurers are saying the increases are based on “the elimination of enhanced federal subsidies, market uncertainty, hospital and pharmacy costs, and utilization.”

The SCC Bureau of Insurance still has to sign off on these proposed increases, after a public viewing and comment period.

To view the plan year 2027 rate presentation, visit Virginia SCC: ACA Rate & Form Filing Information and review Past Workshops, Presentations and Meetings.

To view rate summary information, visit the dedicated page on the website of the SCC.

Information and instructions on how to submit public comment are provided as part of the rate presentation.
