The WNBA trans protests aren’t about fairness: They’re about delegitimizing women’s sports

I need to ask a dumb question: why are conservative groups targeting the WNBA over supposed issues with trans athletes?

I ask because, there aren’t any trans players in the WNBA, and none in the pipeline from the college game or the prep level ready to make the jump.

There’s literally one trans player in a second-tier league in France who is 34 years old with a remote chance of ever getting into even a preseason game.

And, fact check, there are actually more people born female who transitioned to male in male sports – an order of magnitude more.

Why don’t the conservative groups protest outside MLB games, NFL games, why weren’t they at the Men’s World Cup?

You don’t think it’s because …

Oh, I don’t know, because they’re disingenuous about wanting to make sure that girls and women don’t have to compete against those they refer to as “biological males”?

And that the real issue here isn’t that any of these people with signs actually care about fairness in sports, but rather, that sports leagues for girls and women exist at all?

The hint that this is the real issue is evident with the likes of Clay Travis, the MAGA sports bro who has made a million-dollar public challenge to the reigning WNBA champs, the Las Vegas Aces, who he doesn’t think can beat a good high school boys’ team.

ICYMI

The Aces would wipe the floor with a team of high school kids that might have one guy going to the Big Sky, another guy who wants to be a student manager, a couple of guys who will star in pickup games at their D3 school, and three GPA guys at the end of the bench.

Me, personally, I want to see that game; I want to see the 2A state champs from Tennessee or wherever waving the white flag down 40 with 10 minutes left.

Every YMCA in the country has a Clay Travis who thinks he could take Caitlin Clark one-on-one, and is sadly mistaken at that.

The protests they’re sponsoring at WNBA games is about their piggishness, not the idea that a dude in a dress might take a roster spot from Sophie Cunningham.

Somebody needs to start a GoFundMe to offer Travis a million dollars to recruit a team of dudes from the lunchtime pickup games at Fox News to play the Aces.

Pardon the misogyny, but Clay Travis, raging pussy that he is, would never in a million years take up that bet.
