Augusta County: Texas man dead in head-on crash on Route 262 on Monday

A Texas man lost control of his vehicle while driving on Route 262 in Augusta County on Monday, striking another vehicle head-on, and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 2006 Mitsubishi Outlander being driven by Stephen Sean McMahon, 40, of Hays, Texas, had been traveling southbound on Route 262 at 3:24 p.m. Monday before crossing the grass median and entering the northbound lanes, according to a report from Virginia State Police.

The Mitsubishi struck a 2024 Audi Q5 driven by Alan J. Wallis, 73, of Craigsville.

McMahon died at the scene. He was not wearing a seat belt, according to the report on the accident from VSP.

Wallis was transported to Augusta Health for treatment of serious injuries.
