Traffic is snarled on Interstate 64 in Virginia Beach this afternoon after a fatal crash involving a tractor trailer this morning, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.

All lanes are closed on I-64 west near the accident; express lanes are closed in both directions, VDOT reported at 12:02 p.m.

The two-vehicle crash occurred at 6:49 a.m. on I-64 westbound near the 286 mile marker in the city.

The preliminary investigation shows a sedan lost control as it was entering the interstate from Indian River Road, according to Virginia State Police.

The sedan was then struck by an oncoming tractor trailer. The tractor trailer then struck the jersey wall and caught fire.

The driver of the tractor trailer died at the scene. The driver’s name has not been released.

The driver of the sedan suffered minor injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
