Waynesboro teen in custody following shooting incident at 7-Eleven store

A Waynesboro teen was taken into custody after allegedly shooting at a vehicle and gas pump at a 7-Eleven convenience store on Tuesday night.

The 17-year-old juvenile was placed in the Shenandoah Valley Juvenile Detention Center, according to a release from the Waynesboro Police Department. The teen has been charged with three felonies and three misdemeanors related to the incident.

There were no injuries.

According to police, the incident took place at 6:11 p.m. when officers responded to the business, at the intersection of King Avenue and Ivy Street.

Officers in the area located the teen walking nearby, and a 9 mm handful was recovered nearby. The firearm was stolen from a residence, according to police.

The juvenile has been charged with:

  • § 18.2-279 (Felony) Discharging firearms or missiles within or at building;
  • § 18.2-154 (Felony) Shooting at or throwing missiles at car;
  • § 18.2-280 (Misdemeanor) Willfully discharging firearms in public places
  • § 18.2-308.7 (Misdemeanor) Possession or transportation of a firearm by persons under the age of 18.
  • § 18.2-108.1 (Felony) Possession of a stolen firearm;
  • § 18.2-56.1 (Misdemeanor) Reckless handling of a firearm.
