Cancer Society issues call for volunteers

The American Cancer Society of Waynesboro, Staunton, and Augusta County, is asking for volunteers to participate in Cancer Resource Days.

Volunteers will be trained on resources that the local American Cancer Society offers and will be able to relay quality information directly to cancer patients, especially those newly diagnosed, and caregivers. To reach these patients directly, volunteers will work in partnership with Augusta Health in the Cancer Center.

This year the American Cancer Society estimates about 1,638,910 new cancer case diagnoses, about 41,000 of these in Virginia alone. A few of the resources that the local American Cancer Society offers include transportation to treatment for patients in active treatment, makeup pamper sessions for women experiencing side effects of treatment, support groups based on type of cancer, and a 1.800.227.2345 hotline available 24/7.
