Gas prices on the rise: Where are they headed with the U.S. striking Iran?

Oil prices, and gas prices with them, were already trending higher with the missile attacks going back and forth between Israel and Iran.

Now that Donald Trump has escalated things with his move to interject the U.S. into the war, all bets are off.

“With the U.S. launching attacks on Iran, oil prices are likely to continue trending higher,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, which reports that the average gas price nationwide is up 9.7 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.18 per gallon today.

The average in Virginia is up 6.3 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.09 per gallon today, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 4,081 stations in Virginia.

Motorists in Greene County are paying the highest rate locally, at $3.18 per gallon.

De Haan is joining in with the influencers forecasting “apocalyptic spikes” at the gas pump.

“For now, motorists should anticipate a continued steady climb in prices, with the national average likely to increase another 7 to 15 cents this week, while diesel could rise by 10 to 20 cents. These forecasts remain fluid and could shift quickly depending on global developments, so we encourage motorists to stay tuned to GasBuddy for the latest updates and insights,” De Haan said.
