Virginia State Police have released the name of the victim in Friday morning’s fatal two-vehicle crash in Smyth County.

John C. Couch, 41, of Marion, died at the scene.

The accident occurred at 9:30 a.m. on Route 16 near the intersection with Old Prater Road.

According to police, Couch, in a Toyota Scion, was traveling southbound on Route 16 when it crossed the center line. A Dodge Ram travelling northbound tried to avoid the Scion, but the two collided head on.
