Patrick County: VFW Post raising money for repairs to 1927 building

I got an email from Donald Cockram, the commander of VFW Post 7800 down in Stuart, Va., in Patrick County, asking if we could do a writeup on the post’s effort to repair its nearly 100-year-old home base.

“We are a basic post with no bar, no bingo or any other gaming. Our post building was built in 1927. Our post is getting to be in pretty bad need of some repairs that we just can’t afford,” Cockram wrote.

He sent some photos, including the one that we’re using here with the article.

Look at that view!

The post is trying to raise $30,000 for repairs to the flooring and the kitchen, and the gas heaters, which “are really old, and make some pretty good pops while they’re burning,” Cockram wrote.

“I was wondering if you could post something about this and ask the fine folks that read your news articles as I do for their help, regardless of how big or small. Everyone that donates will get a letter/receipt for their taxes. Any help we can get would be deeply appreciated.”

If you’re inclined to help out:
