Trump U.S. Attorney now harassing Virginia Democrat Eugene Vindman

The interim U.S. Attorney in DC who seems to think he’s Donald Trump’s mob lawyer is now harassing Virginia Democrat Eugene Vindman.

“I have received requests for clarification of your personal financial disclosures over the past year. Specifically, my questions focus on whether you are receiving payment for work done or for other reasons,” the interim, Ed Martin, wrote in a letter to Vindman dated Feb. 4, and just made the news on Tuesday, with reporting done by The Washington Post getting the letter out into the mainstream.

Martin is fishing for information on a business launched by Eugene Vindman and his twin brother, Alex Vindman, that the brothers, who are natives of Ukraine, “focused on helping bring technology to Ukraine and building capacity in Ukraine” to aid in the country’s effort to repel the three-years-and-counting Russian invasion.

The business venture is in the crosshairs of the Trumpers for a couple of reasons – one, obviously, Trump has his finger on the scale trying to help the Russian side get what Vladimir Putin wants; and two, the Vindmans, US Army officers with national-security backgrounds, were the guys who blew the whistle on Trump’s effort to strongarm Volodymyr Zelensky into finding dirt on Joe Biden in that now-infamous 2019 “perfect” phone call.

The letter from Martin was embarrassingly sloppy – he didn’t even give Vindman a deadline to reply, leaving the boilerplate language “Please respond by day, month, date, 2025” in the missive instead.

According to the Post, Martin has been flooding the zone with similar letters of inquiry targeting top Democrats, including the Senate Minority Leader, Chuck Schumer.

It’s just an effort at intimidation.

And in Vindman’s case, it doesn’t appear to be working.

“Since he’s become president, Trump’s been focused on weaponizing government and lying to intimidate and silence public servants like me, and it’s not going to work,” Vindman said in a statement released by his office late Tuesday.

“While Trump promised that his number one priority would be to lower prices, he is instead spending his time focused on spewing lies and harassing people that serve this country honorably,” Vindman said.

“How is enacting a retribution campaign going to help lower the cost of living for folks in the Seventh District and across the country? Spoiler alert, it is not.”
