International Women’s Day coincides with march against fascism in the U.S.

Saturday is International Women’s Day but also “Unite and Resist” National Day of Action to build grassroots, community efforts to resist fascism and protect women’s freedoms.

The Women’s March will lead a “Unite and Resist” National Day of Action with coordinated mobilizations in cities and communities across all 50 states. Thousands will gather to push back against MAGA’s authoritarian power grab and defend our families, our freedoms and our futures.

A march is planned in downtown Staunton from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Augusta County Courthouse, 1 E. Johnson Street.

“The broligarchy that owns Trump is working to ‘flood the zone’ with hateful executive actions and rhetoric, trying to overwhelm us into submission. But we refuse to lose focus. We refuse to stand by. They are coming for our schools, our public health systems, our jobs, our reproductive freedoms, our rights, our families, and our futures. This is a full-scale attack on our democracy. Now is not the time for division. We cannot afford to create barriers to entry for those ready to fight and resist. Together and in every state across the country, we will find common ground, build power and stand as one,” Executive Director of Women’s March Rachel O’Leary Carmona said.

The mass action will amplify feminist-led grassroots efforts and provide critical opportunities for communities to connect, organize and resist.

Across the country, people will march, rally and gather in community spaces, demonstrating a united front against the extremist MAGA agenda. The “Unite and Resist” actions will center on building long-term grassroots networks, welcoming new activists into the movement, and ensuring that every person has a place in the fight for justice.

Local mobilizations, including marches, rallies, block parties and organizing meetings, will serve as a crucial on-ramp for new activists and a reinforcement of our collective power. As authoritarian threats escalate, the movement will rise to meet the moment, ensuring that our communities are informed, engaged and ready to act.
