The public is invited to participate in an online survey regarding a study near Interstate 81, exit 298 in Shenandoah County.

The study area focuses on Route 11 (Old Valley Pike) from Radio Station Road/Route 825 (Hite Lane) in the Town of Strasburg to Route 629 (Oranda Road) at Route 850 (Quarry Lane) in Shenandoah County.

The survey closes on February 27.

The study evaluates existing and future transportation conditions along the study corridor. Study data will focus on the locations and possible causes of travel delays and crashes. Recommendations to address safety issues and enhance mobility for all roadway users will be considered.

Route 11 is a minor arterial four-lane roadway with a posted speed limit of 45 miles per hour. In 2023, it had an average annual daily traffic count of 13,000 vehicles per day. The corridor attracts a high percentage of trucks from nearby industrial uses accessing I-81.

The I-81 exit 298 Strategically Targeted Affordable Roadway Solutions (STARS) study is a collaborative effort between the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), Shenandoah County and the Town of Strasburg to evaluate transportation needs and develop recommendations to improve the exit 298 interchange.

Upon survey completion, VDOT and its study partners will evaluate the data and develop potential recommendations for future improvements. Final study recommendations will be considered by VDOT, Shenandoah County and the Town of Strasburg for advancement through state transportation funding programs.

VDOT is serving as the project manager for the study with JMT as a consulting partner for development, supporting analysis and improvement concepts.

Marriage equality is the law of the land, sure, but, take nothing for granted

It’s already the settled law of the land, marriage equality, but Virginia still has embedded in its state constitution, thanks to the politics of 2006, a provision narrowly defining marriage as being between one man and one woman.
