A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for central, northwest and western Virginia and portions of Maryland due to potential snowfall. The advisory runs from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday.

The National Weather Service Baltimore/Washington is predicting two to four inches of snow in the region.

Snow will overspread the area Sunday morning and continue through the afternoon before tapering off during the evening.

Snowfall rates could approach one inch an hour at times.

Travel: Slow down and use caution

The hazardous conditions will impact travel. Slow down and use caution while traveling.

Temperatures will fall into the teens Sunday night so any lingering moisture on area roadways will freeze.

Artic air arrives Monday

AccuWeather is predicting extremely arctic air in the region starting on Monday. Lows are predicted in the single digits on Wednesday night.

“Temperatures plunge early next week,” said AccuWeather Meteorologist Thomas Kines. “There might be a day the temperature fails to rise out of the teens which doesn’t happen every winter.”

The last time temperatures were that cold was just before Christmas in 2022.

“This is a ferocious blast of cold air coming our way,” Kines said. “Mother Nature means business this time.”
