Virginia State Police, with the help of a Fairfax County K9 unit and helicopter, apprehended the driver of a stolen vehicle after a dangerous pursuit on Route 1 early this morning.
The suspect’s name has not been released. The suspect was also wanted in Maryland for an auto theft.
VSP reports the pursuit began at 3 a.m. at the intersection of Route 1 and Quander Road in Fairfax County at 3 a.m. The vehicle refused to stop and took of on Route 1 driving into oncoming southbound lanes of traffic.
The suspect attempted to get back into northbound lanes, but in the process, struck a raised concrete median, according to VSP.
Three suspects then exited the vehicle and took off on foot.
State troopers were able to locate the driver of the stolen vehicle nearby. The other two suspects were not located.
The driver will be charged with auto theft, eluding, wearing a mask and driving without a license.
Alexandria Police officers also assisted VSP in the incident.
