Take the plunge: Special Olympics Virginia registration open for polar plunge events

From the icy shores of the Atlantic Ocean to the frigid waters of lakes and pools, thousands of participants will jump into freezing waters this winter to benefit Special Olympics Virginia.

There are multiple locations to take part in the fundraising effort: from Richmond to Northern Virginia and Virginia Beach to the New River Valley.

The six events run from Dec. 14 to March 1.

Registration is open now for the Freezin’ for a Reason Polar Plunge series.

Once you sign up, participants are encouraged to fundraise to support Special Olympics Virginia’s 20,000+ athletes. Monies raised help provide year-round sports training, competition and health and wellness programs for individuals with intellectual disabilities.

Dec. 14, 2024: Richmond

Take the plunge at Pocahontas Park! It’s an unforgettable experience right in the heart of RVA.

Jan. 25, 2025: Northern Virginia/Mosaic District

Test your mettle at this pool plunge in the Mosaic District, an urban shopping center in Northern Virginia.

Feb. 7, 2025: Virginia Beach

Gather your classmates for the Cool School Challenge, a student-led plunge. Spend a Friday at the beach in support of your school and your community.

Feb. 8, 2025: Virginia Beach

The flagship event with the iconic oceanfront plunge, costume contests and live entertainment. It’s an all-day festival. A 5K Run/Waddle and pre-plunge party will be held on the beach Friday evening (Feb. 7).

Feb. 17, 2025: Northern Virginia/Leesylvania State Park

Go for the cold at the second Northern Virginia Plunge and make a splash in the cold river waters of the Potomac.

March 1, 2025: New River Valley

Dive into Blue Ridge waters at Bisset Park for a unique plunge experience – perfect for thrill-seekers and nature lovers alike.
