Updated, 8:50 p.m.

The individual in the pursuit this morning is on life support at Roanoke Memorial Hospital in critical condition. Virginia State Police initially reported the motorcyclist, Chad Cicero Waldron, had died.

Initial reports to the investigating officer were that the driver of the Kawasaki has passed when delivered to the hospital. Those reports were incorrect, VSP reported tonight.

Waldron remains on life support with life-threatening injuries.

Original report, 11:09 a.m.

A Virginia man died after a high-speed motorcycle pursuit that started on Interstate 581 in Roanoke just after midnight this morning.

Chad Cicero Waldron, of Check, died at Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

Virginia State Police report the Kawaski motorcycle was traveling south at 115 mph. A VSP trooper attempted to pull the motorcycle over, but police say, Waldron refused to stop. He exited the interstate onto Orange Avenue traveling toward Melrose accelerating to 120 mph.

The motorcycle continued into the City of Salem on Electric Road, and Waldron lost control and crashed.

He was wearing a helmet. He was injured and transported to the hospital where he later died.

The Virginia State Police crash reconstruction team was called to assist with the investigation.
