Six injuries were reported this morning after an escalator fire at John F. Kennedy International Airport delayed dozens of flights.
Firefighters from the New York City Fire Department responded shortly after 7 a.m., as reported by USA Today, to a report of smoke and nearly 1,000 travelers were evacuated from Terminal 8.
“Flight operations at Terminal 8 have been impacted. Please check with your airline to determine the status of your flight,” the airport said on X (formerly Twitter).
As of 9 a.m., more than 90 flights delayed air travel from JFK.
A Port Authority of New York and New Jersey spokesperson told The Associated Press that terminal operations were back to normal by 8:15 a.m.
The cause of the fire is so far unclear.
The fire and evacuation come days after a global technology outage by CrowdStrike delayed thousands of flights. Delta Airlines has yet to recover from the outage.
